A clear way through a complex year.
An annual report has to serve readers with different needs. Some want to understand the year at a glance. Others need to examine the detail. For NAMDIA, our task was to give both readers a publication they could navigate with confidence, while presenting the information with the care it deserved.
[ HOW WE THINK ]
Understand
The report brought together material with different purposes, from the account of the year to detailed organisational and financial information. We began by considering what readers needed to understand first, what they might look for later, and how the design could help them move between the two.
Reframe
The challenge was bigger than arranging information on pages. It was deciding how that information should be encountered. We treated the report as a reading journey: establish the wider picture, make each section easy to recognise, then give the supporting detail a clear place within it.
Imagine
Our direction was a publication with a deliberate rhythm. The cover would introduce the report with confidence. Inside, shifts in scale and pace would help readers recognise the main messages, pause at important information, and continue into the detail without losing their place.
Make
We developed the cover and selected spreads as parts of one visual system. Clear headings, consistent typography and a considered page structure gave the content order. The design allowed different kinds of information to sit together while giving each the space it needed.
Measure
The finished report was designed to work at two speeds: a reader can scan it for the main story or spend time with the detail. That is the design outcome we can show through the cover and spreads. Reader response or other measures can be added here when they are available.
Learn
Complex information becomes easier to approach when its sequence is carefully considered. This project reinforced a principle we bring to our work: understand what the reader needs, then use design to make the path through the material clear.
